The Power of Solfeggio Frequencies: Ancient Healing Tones for Mind, Body and Spirit

Introduction:

In the blog article last week Pythagoras: The Greek Philosopher Who Discovered the Harmony in Numbers and Sound, I mentioned for centuries, ancient civilizations have used various forms of sound therapy as a way to heal the body and mind.
One such form is the Solfeggio frequencies.
The Solfeggio frequencies are a set of nine electromagnetic tones that form the basis of many ancient sacred music, dating as far back as the 8th century with Gregorian and Indian Sanskrit chants. These frequencies have been rediscovered in recent times, and have sparked renewed interest in the healing power of sound.
In this article, I will explore the history and significance of the Solfeggio frequencies, including their benefits, and how they can be used today.

History of the Solfeggio Frequencies
The Solfeggio frequencies have a long history, dating back to the 10th century with the work of Benedictine Monk and music theorist Guido d'Arezzo. Guido d'Arezzo put music to a poem called "The Hymn To St John The Baptist", based on an 8th-century poem attributed to another monk named Paulus Diaconus. This hymn, which is a Gregorian chant, is the most widely celebrated example of the use of the Solfeggio scale in ancient music. The first stanza of the Hymn is:
Ut queant laxis
Resonare fibris
Mira gestorum
Famuli tuorum
Solve polluti
labii reatum
Sancte Johannes
Translation: So that your servants may, with loosened voices, resound the wonders of your deeds, clean the guilt from our stained lips, O Saint John.
Notice the first syllable of the beginning lines: Ut-Re-Mi-Fa-Sol-La.
This poem formed the basis for our modern scale used by vocalists and musicians today being Do-Re-Mi-Fa-So-La-Ti. The modern scale adds one note to the original six-tones of the Solfeggio scale.

The Original Six Tones of the Solfeggio Frequencies and Their Benefits
The original six tones of the Solfeggio frequencies are believed to have specific benefits, and they are as follows:
1. UT - 396 Hz – Liberating Guilt and Fear
This frequency is said to help release feelings of guilt and fear.
It is believed to promote a sense of inner peace and well-being, as well as help individuals overcome negative emotions and past traumas.
2. RE - 417 Hz – Undoing Situations and Facilitating Change
This frequency is associated with undoing negative situations and facilitating positive changes in one's life.
It is said to promote clarity and help individuals move forward in a positive direction.
3. MI - 528 Hz – Transformation and Miracles (DNA Repair)
Considered the most powerful of the Solfeggio frequencies, MI is believed to promote transformation and miracles in one's life.
It is also said to promote DNA repair and boost overall health and well-being.
4. FA - 639 Hz – Connecting/Relationships
This frequency is believed to promote connection and harmony in relationships.
It is said to help individuals improve their communication skills and foster healthy relationships with others.
5. SOL- 741 Hz – Expression/Solutions
This frequency is associated with creative expression and problem-solving.
It is said to promote clarity of thought and help individuals find solutions to problems in their lives.
6. LA - 852 Hz – Returning to Spiritual Order
This frequency is believed to promote a sense of spiritual connectedness and inner peace.
It is said to help individuals connect with their higher selves and achieve a greater sense of spiritual awareness.

Scales lost in time for centuries
Guido d'Arezzo's lived during Western Europe's Middle Ages. During this time, the Eastern Church would have had very little reason to preserve a music scale created by the Western Church when they had their own scale with 8-tones called the Oktoechos. Historical records show the introduction of the twelve-tone scale "Twelve-Tone Equal Temperament" in the end of the middle ages some time near the end of the 16th century.

Recovery of the Solfeggio Frequencies
In the modern day, science has been able to back up exactly what our ancestors described.
In the 1940s, a French doctor named Alfred Tomatis developed hearing and listening therapies known as the Tomatis method, or Audio-Psycho-Phonology (APP). He used music to cure hearing loss and successfully employed it in treating autism and learning disabilities. Is it a coincidence that Dr. Tomatis used recordings of Gregorian chants, one of the original sources of the Solfeggio scales?
Despite being lost for hundreds of years, the Solfeggio frequencies used by these chants would be recovered later in the 1970s.
Dr. Joseph Puleo, a naturopathic physician and researcher known for his work in naturopathic medicine, is credited with rediscovering the Solfeggio frequencies.
Using the Pythagorean method of number reduction on the Old Testament's Book of Numbers. By finding repeating patterns in the numbers, Dr. Puleo was able to uncover the lost frequencies of the Solfeggio scale. Puleo's research showed that the frequencies were not just random sounds, but had a mathematical relationship, that could be traced back to ancient religious texts.
The Pythagorean method of number reduction involves adding all the digits of a larger number together, and if the result is still a multi-digit number, repeating the process until a single-digit number is reached.
Puleo found that the numbers 3, 6, and 9 kept repeating in the Book of Numbers, which he believed was significant. When Dr. Puleo applied this method to Chapter 7, starting with verse 12, he noticed a pattern developing with every sixth verse.
Verse 12, 18, 24, 30, and so on repeated the sequence 396.
Verse 13, 19, 25, 31, and so on repeated the sequence 417.
396 and 417 are the first two frequencies in the Solfeggio scales, and Dr. Puleo uncovered a further three frequencies by repeating this process, which now form an extension to the scale. So now, in the modern day we have the original ancient six frequencies and a further modern three.

The Three Unearthed Frequencies
The three unearthed modern frequencies are:
1. 174 Hz: Associated with pain reduction and anesthetic properties.
2. 285 Hz: Associated with cellular repair (tissue restoration), body regeneration and better immunity.
3. 963 Hz: Associated with spiritually awakening and connecting to the "oneness" of universe.
Interestingly, if we continue to apply the Pythagorean method to the Solfeggio frequencies, we find that each of them adds up to 3, 6, or 9.
There are two frequencies in the original scale (and three if we include all 9 frequencies) that include the numbers 3, 6, and 9.
Note that Nikola Tesla, the famous inventor and engineer, once said: "If you only knew the magnificence of the 3, 6 and 9, then you would have a key to the universe."
Did he know something we didn't?
Further investigation into the Solfeggio Frequencies took place in 1988 when a biochemist named Dr. Glen Rein began looking into the effect of sound waves on the human body. Rein's experiment exposed DNA to four different styles of music: Sanskrit mantras, Gregorian chants, classical, and rock. By measuring the rate of UV light absorption, Rein was able to assess the effects of each type of music on the DNA. The results showed that Gregorian chants and Sanskrit mantras promoted DNA repair, while classical music promoted DNA repair by a smaller amount. Rock music resulted in damaging the DNA.

How to Use Solfeggio Frequencies for Healing
There are several ways to use Solfeggio frequencies for healing purposes.
Here are a few common methods:

1. Listening to Solfeggio Frequency Music:
One of the easiest ways to incorporate Solfeggio frequencies into your daily routine is to listen to music that incorporates these frequencies. There are many options available online, ranging from guided meditations to ambient background music.
2. Chanting or Singing Solfeggio Frequencies:
